WHERE WE ARE LOCATED

Girard Lifesaver Rescue is located in the small rural town of Girard, Ga.  We have few fosters most of our rescues are housed and cared for here at our facility. We are in a 100 year old house that has been restored as our "hotel for dogs".  We have 1.15 acres and have outside and inside kennels.  Our entire property is fenced in and we have two play yards for our animals to excercise and play in.  Being in a county with no animal control and so many animals needing a safe haven, we stay overwhelmed.  We try very hard to help as many animals as we are able to facilitate and we DESPERATELY need a few angels willing to foster some of our rescues.  This opens up doors and makes it possible for us to help others in need.  Nothing hurts us more than having to turn away a pet who desperately needs a safe place to go just because we are full to capacity and do not have foster homes for them.  PLEASE CONSIDER BEING A FOSTER PARENT...You will be rewarded with love, affection and doggie kisses from the animals you are wiling to help get a second chance at life.

Please

WE ARE RESCUE        Until you have held a homeless tiny puppy in your arms as it kissed your face with slobbery puppy breath, and felt the love…Until you have held an injured or severely ill dog in your arms, and felt their pain…      Until you have looked into the eyes of a tired aging senior dog, and felt their wisdom…And until you have seen and understand the look in a dogs eyes that tells you their time on earth with you is over, and you humanely let them go, You will never understand the life of a rescuer. We find beauty in the most incomprehensible places and the otherwise homely faces. It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, the sadness and defeat and find the true soul that lies within.     WE ARE RESCUE.  Written By:Kathy Sullivan ParkesFriend and Fellow Rescuer

We are a 501(c)3  EIN # 45-5221791

Thank you to 1-800-PetMeds for their donation!

We are a Georgia Department of Agriculture licensed rescue and are in process of getting our 501(c)3 non profit tax status so that we can help even more abandoned and neglected animals in our county and beyond. We recently became incorporated. By incorporating our rescue and spay/neuter clinic into one entity, we are able to offer no cost spay/neuter surgeries.   We feel this will make a tremendous difference in the lives of countless animals born in Burke County only to be discarded at dumpsters or down lonely backroads of our county.

We have taken in hundreds of animals over the past few years.  Many were in horrible shape and many were broken physically, mentally, or both. Over the last Eight years we have managed with very little funding to vet, feed, house and care for so many who have now found wonderful forever homes.  Our dream is that one day we will become a no kill nation where no animal is sentenced to death because of irresponsible breeding and ignorance or simply because they were born unwanted.  We strive to educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.

We also lobby for mandatory spay/neuter, dog licensing fees, anti chaining laws and stiffer penalties and stronger enforcement for animal cruelty and neglect.
We are a no kill rescue/shelter and believe that all animals have the same right to life as we do unless they are dangerous to the general public or they are too sick to be saved.

We occassionally assist out of state rescues who want to pull an animal on death row in Georgia's many funded kill shelters.  These pets are pulled from the shelter and vetted, evaluated and quarantined here at Girard Lifesaver Rescue for a minimum of two weeks and in many cases longer until transport is arranged for them to go North to the rescue who stepped up to save their lives and who will then find them their very own forever home and family.

We serve Burke, Jenkins & Screven Counties and the entire CSRA of Georgia & South Carolina, but we welcome inquires from other areas of
Georgia as well as out of state inquires. Transport can be arranged in some cases

We are at full capacity and are in dire
need of foster homes and volunteers so that we can save more lives. them.  Thanks for your support and thanks for caring enough to make a difference in the lives of so many.                                AND HELP US SAVE LIVES TODAY!

Words from Samantha.... I have lived in this area of Georgia for the past fifteen years. During this time, I have rescued and treated abandoned dogs, cats, and puppies from dumpsters, treated mange, and other parasites, and transported animals to low cost spay and neuter clinics . I do this as a community service for the citizens of this area who cannot afford the cost of a regular veterinarian. I have bottle fed puppies and kittens, and watched as many animals died unnoticed. I have great respect for the citizens and good Samaritans of this county who unselfishly open their hearts and homes to give sanction from the cruel fate these throw away animals more often than not endure. They deserve much praise and recognition for these humane acts of kindness, as well as for seeing an animal life for what it is worth, not just another mouth to feed. YOU make a tremendous difference. Without animal control in our county, rescues and the compassionate people who care, are the only chance these animals have.

I feel that low cost spay and neuter clinics located through-out the Burke and Jenkins county area would greatly reduce the amount of strays and abandoned animals here. I have a clinic that has been ready for some time now.  GLS Rescue is working hard to find homes for many of our homeless pets at our shelter in order to get our clinic open.  We have now had several offers of veterinary services to do the spay neuter surgeries.  We just need to find homes for some of the animals at our rescue which is also located where the clinic is.  Your help in spreading the word is greatly appreciated.  If you know of someone who could offer a loving home to any of our furbabies, please refer them to GLS Rescue.

Although animal rescue is a large part of helping with our ever-growing population of unwanted animals, prevention could play an even larger role.

Many people cannot afford to pay the adoption fees for an animal when they see and can find so many at the "drop" spots in our community. People need some sort of relief for their efforts, and when offered an affordable alternative will willingly have their pets spayed or neutered. Veterinarians charge higher prices than low cost spay/neuter clinics because they have large overhead and expensive machinery, such as ex-ray machines. A community that works together could accomplish so much more than one that refuses to support each other. PLEASE SPAY OR NEUTER YOR PETS!!

For all the good Samaritans and Rescuers who offer the county's throw away animals forever homes, I post this note and would personally like to give a heartfelt Thank You for your great role in helping these “throw away animals, also a big Thank You to THE BURKE COUNTY HOSPITAL for their kind donations of much needed equipment including a surgery table for our spay/neuter clinic. We would also like to thank all of the wonderful people and organizations who have supported us in one way or the other over the past few years…  It is because of You that we have been able to continue and save so many lives!!
